Episode 310: Not International Women’s Day

This is the 310th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). After two shows focusing on interviews, this time around we’re getting back to basics – it’s just me and a lot of music. We do have a vague theme to the show, though, as we are very belatedly reflecting on International Women’s Day with a playlist that mostly focuses on the achievements of women in music. Our feature band for this show reflects that theme as you’ll hear three tracks from the much missed all-female unit The Puppets. Across the show, we’ll have a typically eclectic playlist, including a return to our Corea Talks feature and lots of 2021 music. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). I’ve spent the last four shows counting down my 42 favourite albums of 2020, and you can still check out the excellent music on those shows. But this time I’m really starting to introduce you to, and catch up on, a load of 2021 releases, so you’ll find lots of great new music on this show. I’ll be mixing it up too, though, so you can expect a typically eclectic musical mix, covering different time periods and genres, including a feature album from 2018, Mitsune’ by Mitsune, an all-female shamisen trio based in Berlin, who play a dynamic mix of Japanese traditional music, modern shamisen repertoire and their own original compositions & arrangements, and you’ll hear three tracks from that throughout the show. Episode 305: Best of 2020, Top 42 pt 3

For this show it’s part 3 (of 4) of my 42 favourite albums of 2020. Episode 300: The Gift of the Wheelman

This is the 300th edition (sorta) of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). I hope you enjoyed the previous very special and bittersweet show. This time, however, it’s this year’s festive edition, so you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music only this time all the tracks will have some form of wintry/Christmas/solstice theme. We have a feature album this time around, ‘The Essential Now That’s What I Call an a.P.A.t.T. Christmas Vol 1’, the 2019 compilation album by a.P.A.t.T., which contains 12 songs released over 13 years as part of the band’s annual challenge to record and release a song for each day of Christmas, and you’ll hear three tracks from that across the course of the show. You can also expect the usual eclectic musical mix, including some new music from 2020, some older tracks of various vintages thrown in for good measure, and a tribute to the late, great Harold Budd. All-in-all, expect a unique festive-themed extravaganza with lots of great music and pleasant surprises. Episode 299: 300 and Mum

This is the 299th edition (though it’s actually the 300th) of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Many thanks to Rebsie Fairholm for kindly standing in for me on the excellent previous show. This time around it’s a very special show for a couple of reasons. First, because it’s actually the 300th edition (because sometime ago I did a ‘half’ show, & if you count that then this becomes show number 300), so that seems like a thing well worth celebrating. Second, on a much more tragic note, my Mum sadly passed away back in September, so I wanted to pay musical tribute to her in much the same way that I did for my Dad back in 2019. And as with my Dad, there wasn’t a huge overlap between my Mum’s tastes and those of a typical Eppy Gibbon playlist, so what I’ve done is pick some tracks that she loved, and I’ve scattered them throughout this show’s eclectic playlist. So, some of the tracks won’t be quite what you’re used to but there should be enough typical Eppy Gibbon music to keep everyone satisfied. There’s no feature album this time, to allow me to play the tracks dedicated to my Mum, but there’s the usual mixture of great & eclectic sounds from bands/acts you’ll know plus quite a few that you won’t. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Thanks to all the musicians who contributed, to Count Eppy Gibbon, and of course to all of you listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. For the next show, in a couple of weeks’ time, we are excited to be focusing on the brand new album by favourites of the show, Sanguine Hum, with three tracks from the new album, ‘A Trace of Memory’, plus music selected by the members of the band. I hope to see you back for that.

Episode 294: Best of 2019 – the best of the rest part 4

This is the 294th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). After my recent tribute to Tim Smith, on this show I return (for the last time) to my review of some of the best music from 2019 that didn’t get included in my top 31 albums countdown of last year. And we have a feature album on this show, inevitably from 2019, ‘Sub Marine Dreams’, the latest and brilliant album by the aquatic/prog/funk/sea shanty/pop band Seas Of Mirth, and you’ll hear three tracks from that on the playlist. Other than that you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music, including tracks from albums, EPs and singles, all from 2019. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Total running time: 2 hours and 33 minutes. Downloaded file is 130.9 MB.
