Episode 385: EppyFest 11 Preview

This is the 385th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This show is largely focused on previewing EppyFest 11, the latest of the live music events connected with this show, which will be happening on the weekend of July 27th and 28th, 2024. At Smokey Joe’s in Cheltenham you’ll be able to see six acts perform and on this show, you’ll hear tracks from all of the acts playing at EppyFest this year, including a feature artist, Tim Bowness, the wonderful English singer-songwriter who will be headlining the Saturday of the festival (27th of July) with his Butterfly Mind band, so you’ll hear three tracks by or featuring Tim throughout the show. You’ll also be hearing some spoken word contributions from most of the EppyFest 11 acts, so you’ll get some insights into what you can expect from them and what they’re looking forward to about the festival, and we’ll cover the usual diverse selection of styles and genres across the playlist, including some tributes to people we have sadly lost recently. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Episode 375: Creative Endeavours with Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate

This is the 375th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Hopefully you got through the recent Halloween special relatively unscathed. This new show couldn’t be much more different, as we have a twin focus on themes connected to science fiction and the cycle of violence, albeit through music, and this is reflected in the fact that we have an interview and no less than two feature albums. Our interview is with Malcolm Galloway and Mark Gatland, the duo behind Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate, and one of our feature albums is their latest, ‘The Light Of Ancient Mistakes’, so you’ll hear three tracks from that during the interview, as well as music chosen by Malcolm and Mark, and a look ahead to their one day progressive music event, Prog the Forest ’23. And our second feature album is the soundtrack to the 2023 film, ‘The Creator’, and you’ll hear four tracks from or inspired by that soundtrack throughout the show. Other than that, you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music, including a look ahead to this year’s Chrimbo Limbo live music event in late December. Episode 243: TV Themes Special 3

This is the 243rd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You should be able to CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. Unfortunately the iTunes subscription no longer appears to be working so either download the show via the link above, or stream the show via Mixcloud (if you become a follower you can find out whenever I add new shows there) and the show can also be found on the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This latest show is another TV Themes Special. I’ve done a couple of these shows before (back in 2015 & then in 2017) and they’ve been very well received by listeners so hopefully this will round out a successful trilogy. You’ll hear a host of TV themes, some very familiar & some more obscure, covering many of the usual genres we cover on the show and offering the usual eclectic musical mix. There’s no feature album this time but rather a feature TV show, the 1968 children’s serial drama, ‘The Tyrant King’, which was notable for its use of a progressive music soundtrack, so you’ll hear three of the tracks that were used as part of that show’s soundtrack.
