Episode 383: Best of 2023, The Big Top 10

This is the 383rd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). With this show I continue my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2023. This time it’s part 4 (of 4) of my 40 favourite albums of 2023, which means it’s the big one: my top 10 of last year. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the amazing albums I’ve placed between 10 and 1 in the countdown, plus you’ll also hear some spoken word contributions from many of the artists behind the music. We’ll also kick things off with tributes to Damo Suzuki and Steve Wright, who both sadly passed away recently. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Total running time: 2 hours and 59 minutes. Downloaded file is 164.1 MB.

Thanks to all the musicians who contributed, and of course to all of you listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. Next time, in a couple of weeks, I should be back with a show that focuses mostly if not entirely on the new musical year of 2024 – it’s about time I moved on from 2023 and there’s already lots of great 2024 music to catch up on. I really hope you’ll join me for that.

    Dear Ian,

Greetings from over the pond in the US. I’ve only just finished listening to the 4-episode “Best Of” series and want to thank you once again for an excellent selection of music. As always, there are many selections that go right to the BandCamp wishlist! Next BandCamp Friday is May 5th…

I admire how eclectic your tastes are, and thank you for introducing me to a lot of very fine music I’d otherwise not likely have discovered. Each year, it’s also very interesting to see which of my favorites made it to your list. Wonderful albums by Zopp, Jack O’ The Clock and The Witching Hour, just to name a few.

    Sending warm wishes your way!

    — Miner

    • Dear Miner,

Thank you very much for the very kind and much appreciated words about the show. I’m really glad that you have got through and enjoyed the four ‘Best of 2023 shows’ and have found some things to buy for the next Bandcamp Friday – I’m sure the artists and bands will very much appreciate it!

And great to see some overlap on our favourites of last year lists – Jack O’The Clock and The Witching Hour are both fab. And having just yesterday seen Zopp play live, I can say that they’re able to deliver in the real world as well as on record. I hope you get to see them live at some point.

Thanks again for the feedback and kind words, Miner. I do appreciate your ongoing support and open-mindedness.
