Episode 304: Best of 2020, Top 42 pt 2

This is the 304th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This show continues my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2020. It feels to me that, in an otherwise terrible year, there were so many great albums released in 2020, which meant I found it even harder than normal to get it down to a top 30, so in the end I didn’t bother, and instead I went for a top 42. For this show it’s part 2 (of 4) of my 42 favourite albums of 2020. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the albums I’ve placed between 30 and 21 in the countdown (with the top 20 countdown continuing over the course of the next two shows). In addition, we’ll also have something brand new from Spindle Ensemble and I’ll reflect belatedly on five years since the passing of the late, great David Bowie. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

This is the 292nd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). I hope you enjoyed the previous show where we particularly focused on the art rock band Girl Swallows Nightingale, including an interview with their lead singer-songwriter, plus three tracks from their excellent debut album ‘Shapeshifter’. We have another feature album this time around, but we go back 20 years to the year 2000 and the debut album by Goldfrapp, ‘Felt Mountain’, and you’ll hear a couple of tracks from that on this playlist. Other than that you can expect the usual eclectic musical mixture, including loads of tracks from 2020, plus a few things of a slightly older vintage. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

I should be back for the next show when I’ll be paying tribute to the music, the legacy and the genius of the late, great Tim Smith, so I hope you’ll come back for that.

Episode 290: Ennio Morricone, Tim Smith and Affectionate Friends

This is the 290th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This is a sad but celebratory show, as we pay tribute to a number of composers and musicians that we have sadly lost recently. We have a feature artist, the late, great maestro himself, Ennio Morricone, and we’ll be playing several tracks either composed or inspired by him. We also recently lost the genius English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and music video director Tim Smith, best known as the frontman of the band Cardiacs. I will be doing a longer tribute to him on a future show, but I couldn’t let this show pass by without celebrating Tim’s great talents, so you’ll hear music from him and also composed by him, as well as music from many of his affectionate friends scattered throughout the show. And we have also recently lost the singer-songwriter, guitarist and Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green, and Jarno Sarkula, leader of the Finnish band Alamaailman Vasarat, so you’ll also hear tributes to them. And around all those tributes you can expect the usual eclectic musical mixture. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

This show is filled to the brim with quality music, most of it from 2020, though we do have a few older tracks, including a couple played in tribute to people we have sadly lost this year – including the composer Krzysztof Penderecki, & Dave Greenfield, keyboardist with The Stranglers. Episode 278: Best of 2019, Top 10 albums

This is the 278th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Thanks to Daniel & Rebsie for sitting in for me for the last show, which was excellent. Last time you heard from me I was covering part 2 (of 3) of my 31 favourite albums of 2019, the albums I placed between 20 and 11 in the countdown, but here we move onto the big top 10, the wonderful albums I’ve placed between 10 and 1. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from my 10 favourite albums of last year. We also start the show by paying tribute to the late, great Terry Jones, & send out belated birthday wishes to the mighty Robert Wyatt. Thanks to all the musicians who contributed and to all listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. Next time, I’ll be back with more of a ‘normal’ show (relatively speaking) – I’ll be bringing you lots of music from new 2020 releases, plus I’ll be dipping back across the decades to provide you with a typically eclectic show, so I hope you’ll be back for that.

I may well have to miss the next show as I’m likely to be snowed under with work from my day job, so hopefully my regular guest presenters, Daniel & Rebsie, will be sitting in instead, bringing you their own take on Eppy Gibbon music. And I should be back in a couple of show’s time, bringing you the third part of my top 31 countdown of my favourite albums of 2019, covering the all-important albums at numbers 10-1, so I hope you’ll be back for two exciting shows in a row.
