Episode 330: Best of 2021, The Top 10

The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). With this show I conclude my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2021. Last year was certainly another difficult one in many ways, but one upside is that there were many great albums released in 2021, so it was difficult to settle on a top 30, so in the end I didn’t bother, and instead I went for a top 32. For this show it’s part 3 (of 3) of my 32 favourite albums of 2021, the big top 10. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the amazing albums I’ve placed between 10 and 1 in the countdown. We’ll also kick things off with a tribute to the late, great Ian McDonald, who sadly passed away just as I was putting this show together. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Last time around, we had a half-term report, focusing on some of the very best music from the first six months of 2021, but this time I’m reviewing some of the best music from 2020 that didn’t get included in my top 42 albums countdown of last year. I’ll be covering the usual eclectic mix of styles, genres and the unclassifiable but with a focus on music from albums, EPs and singles released in 2020. And we have a feature album on this show, inevitably from 2020, ‘Artefact’, an impressive and eclectic album by Kashgar, the vehicle for the solo compositions of Marcus Taylor, exploring the interface of jazz, rock and world styles, and you’ll hear three tracks from that on the playlist. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Episode 304: Best of 2020, Top 42 pt 2

This is the 304th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This show continues my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2020. It feels to me that, in an otherwise terrible year, there were so many great albums released in 2020, which meant I found it even harder than normal to get it down to a top 30, so in the end I didn’t bother, and instead I went for a top 42. For this show it’s part 2 (of 4) of my 42 favourite albums of 2020. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the albums I’ve placed between 30 and 21 in the countdown (with the top 20 countdown continuing over the course of the next two shows). In addition, we’ll also have something brand new from Spindle Ensemble and I’ll reflect belatedly on five years since the passing of the late, great David Bowie. Episode 303: Best of 2020, Top 42 pt 1

This is the 303rd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Many thanks to Rebsie Fairholm for standing in for me on the last show when I was very busy with work – it was indeed a most excellent playlist. But I’m back again with this show as I begin my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2020. It feels to me that, in an otherwise terrible year, there were so many great albums released in 2020, which meant I found it even harder than normal to get it down to a top 30, so in the end I didn’t bother, and instead I went for a top 42. For this show it’s part 1 (of 4) of my 42 favourite albums of 2020. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the albums I’ve placed between 42 and 31 in the countdown (with the top 30 countdown continuing over the course of the next three shows). Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.
