Episode 311: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station

This is the 311th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Last time around, we had a playlist that mostly focused on the achievements of women in music. Well, this time around, my main focus is to play you lots of great 2021 music, with the occasional dip into the past. There’s no feature album this time around because I’ve been getting a bit behind with my coverage of new releases, so instead I want to cover tracks from as many releases as possible. But don’t worry, because across the show we’ll have a typically eclectic playlist, including another return to our Corea Talks feature and a tribute to the late, great Malcolm Cecil. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Episode 303: Best of 2020, Top 42 pt 1

This is the 303rd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Many thanks to Rebsie Fairholm for standing in for me on the last show when I was very busy with work – it was indeed a most excellent playlist. But I’m back again with this show as I begin my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2020. It feels to me that, in an otherwise terrible year, there were so many great albums released in 2020, which meant I found it even harder than normal to get it down to a top 30, so in the end I didn’t bother, and instead I went for a top 42. For this show it’s part 1 (of 4) of my 42 favourite albums of 2020. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the albums I’ve placed between 42 and 31 in the countdown (with the top 30 countdown continuing over the course of the next three shows). Episode 300: The Gift of the Wheelman

This is the 300th edition (sorta) of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). I hope you enjoyed the previous very special and bittersweet show. This time, however, it’s this year’s festive edition, so you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music only this time all the tracks will have some form of wintry/Christmas/solstice theme. We have a feature album this time around, ‘The Essential Now That’s What I Call an a.P.A.t.T. Christmas Vol 1’, the 2019 compilation album by a.P.A.t.T., which contains 12 songs released over 13 years as part of the band’s annual challenge to record and release a song for each day of Christmas, and you’ll hear three tracks from that across the course of the show. You can also expect the usual eclectic musical mix, including some new music from 2020, some older tracks of various vintages thrown in for good measure, and a tribute to the late, great Harold Budd. All-in-all, expect a unique festive-themed extravaganza with lots of great music and pleasant surprises. Thanks to all the musicians who contributed, particularly to Marica Petrey and the rest of Girl Swallows Nightingale, and to all listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. I should be back for the next show when I’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Goldfrapp’s debut album ‘Felt Mountain’, plus there will of course be the usual eclectic playlist, so I hope you’ll come back for that.

Episode 287: Half-term report, 2020

This is the 287th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Many thanks to Rebsie & Daniel for sitting in for me on the last show. But I’m back this time with a show that entirely focuses on music from 2020, as I bring you some of the best music to be found on albums, EPs and singles released so far this year. I’m trying to cram in as much music as possible from many different releases, so therefore there will not be a feature album for this show.
