Episode 388: Buying a Stairway to Heron

This is the 388th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Following the last show when I previewed this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival, on this show I’ll mainly be focusing on lots of 2024 music. And I’ll also be looking ahead to a forthcoming 2024 release, currently available to pre-order, by reflecting on the band’s previous release, as our feature album is ’13 Moons’, the 2021 album by Hands of the Heron, so you’ll hear three tracks from that. Hands of the Heron are not only headlining the Sunday of EppyFest 11 in July, but later in the year they are aiming to release their long-awaited third album, so on this show we’ll be celebrating their past brilliance and encouraging you to part with some money. Other than that, we’ll cover the usual diverse selection of styles and genres across the playlist. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. For the next show, in a couple of weeks’ time, I should be back with part three of my countdown of my favourite albums of 2023, covering the albums I picked from numbers 20 to 11. I really hope you’ll join me for that.

Episode 380: Best of 2023, Top 40 pt 1

This is the 380th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). With this show I begin my slightly delayed countdown of my favourite albums of 2023. I did try to get it down to a top 30, I assure you, but I couldn’t manage it, so instead I went for a top 40. For this show it’s part 1 (of 4) of my 40 favourite albums of 2023. You can expect a great mixture of music in this show, and a typically eclectic playlist, with two tracks each from the albums I’ve placed between 40 and 31 in the countdown (you’ll hear the top 30 countdown over the course of the next three shows). And I’ll also start things with music from a new name to the show Guinevere, and a tribute to Del Palmer who sadly died recently. Episode 375: Creative Endeavours with Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate

This is the 375th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Hopefully you got through the recent Halloween special relatively unscathed. This new show couldn’t be much more different, as we have a twin focus on themes connected to science fiction and the cycle of violence, albeit through music, and this is reflected in the fact that we have an interview and no less than two feature albums. Our interview is with Malcolm Galloway and Mark Gatland, the duo behind Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate, and one of our feature albums is their latest, ‘The Light Of Ancient Mistakes’, so you’ll hear three tracks from that during the interview, as well as music chosen by Malcolm and Mark, and a look ahead to their one day progressive music event, Prog the Forest ’23. And our second feature album is the soundtrack to the 2023 film, ‘The Creator’, and you’ll hear four tracks from or inspired by that soundtrack throughout the show. Other than that, you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music, including a look ahead to this year’s Chrimbo Limbo live music event in late December. This latest show focuses almost entirely on music from 2023, with the main exception being our feature album, ‘Flaunt The Imperfection’, the 1985 album by China Crisis, and we’ll have two tracks from that throughout the show. But apart from that dip into the 1980s, this show will predominantly focus on 2023 music (plus there’s one track from 2021, just to be different), as part of a typically eclectic playlist. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This is the last show before EppyFest 10 so I’m going to be spending some of this show reminding you what an amazing set of bands and acts we have on the bill, to hopefully encourage you to buy tickets and spread the word. And we don’t have a feature album or band this time, but we will be playing a couple of tracks by one of the EppyFest 10 bands, Jerboah, and because that band are quite dominated by recorders, I will be playing other examples of recorders being used by rock bands. Otherwise you can expect the usual eclectic mixture of music, from all the usual styles and genres, including lots of great 2023 music, plus we return to our new Prog Magazine feature. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Thanks to all the musicians who contributed to this show, and to all listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re part of the Progzilla Radio Network. Do join me for the next show, post-EppyFest 10, when I’ll be playing the usual eclectic mix of great music, both the weird, the wonderful and everything in between. I’ll be doing another of my best of the rest specials, looking back on some great music from 2022 that didn’t get into my top 31 albums countdown for that year, so I hope to see you then.

Episode 362: False Witness

This is the 362nd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This show contains a typically eclectic musical mixture, in part represented by our feature album, which is a recently released compilation album, ‘Sharpella’s Selection’, a sampler released in conjunction with The Progressive Alternative show, which broadcasts on Brooklands Radio and is presented by Adrian Bell – aka Belch. There will be three tracks from this album appearing throughout the course of the show. In addition, we’ll mainly be focusing on lots of 2023 releases, including several tracks as part of our new Prog Magazine feature, plus I’ll be reflecting on the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and a King Crimson documentary, and revealing this year’s EppyFest promo, so you can expect lots of dips into the usual wide range of genres and styles. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.
