Episode 388: Buying a Stairway to Heron

This is the 388th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). Following the last show when I previewed this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival, on this show I’ll mainly be focusing on lots of 2024 music. And I’ll also be looking ahead to a forthcoming 2024 release, currently available to pre-order, by reflecting on the band’s previous release, as our feature album is ’13 Moons’, the 2021 album by Hands of the Heron, so you’ll hear three tracks from that. Hands of the Heron are not only headlining the Sunday of EppyFest 11 in July, but later in the year they are aiming to release their long-awaited third album, so on this show we’ll be celebrating their past brilliance and encouraging you to part with some money. Other than that, we’ll cover the usual diverse selection of styles and genres across the playlist. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Episode 347: Best of the rest of 2021 pt 2

This is the 347th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). After the previous show, a Swedish music special, it’s now back to business as usual and specifically that involves me playing some of the best music from 2021 that didn’t get featured in my top 32 albums of last year. We have a feature album from 2021, ‘Failure in Three Parts’, from an American band Jack and the Dull Boy who mix hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive pop, and you’ll hear three fabulous tracks from it throughout the course of the show. In addition, you can expect the usual eclectic musical mixture, with a focus on music from albums, EPs, and singles released in 2021. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

We’ll be covering most of the usual eclectic mixture of styles across the playlist, and outside of the interview we’ll be reflecting on some new releases, the successes of EppyFest 9, and the tragic passing of both Massimo Morante of the Italian band Goblin, and the legendary actor and singer Bernard Cribbins. Episode 290: Ennio Morricone, Tim Smith and Affectionate Friends

This is the 290th edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). This is a sad but celebratory show, as we pay tribute to a number of composers and musicians that we have sadly lost recently. We have a feature artist, the late, great maestro himself, Ennio Morricone, and we’ll be playing several tracks either composed or inspired by him. We also recently lost the genius English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and music video director Tim Smith, best known as the frontman of the band Cardiacs. I will be doing a longer tribute to him on a future show, but I couldn’t let this show pass by without celebrating Tim’s great talents, so you’ll hear music from him and also composed by him, as well as music from many of his affectionate friends scattered throughout the show. And we have also recently lost the singer-songwriter, guitarist and Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green, and Jarno Sarkula, leader of the Finnish band Alamaailman Vasarat, so you’ll also hear tributes to them. And around all those tributes you can expect the usual eclectic musical mixture. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.
