Episode 293: Tim Smith Tribute Special

This is the 293rd edition of the Epileptic Gibbon podcast music show and the playlist to accompany it. You can CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD but note that the shows are large files. The show is also available to stream via Mixcloud and the Progzilla Radio Network (the show appears on Progzilla in alternate weeks). On this show I’ll be paying tribute to the music, the legacy and the genius of the late, great Tim Smith. Our feature album this time reflects that as it’s the fourth album proper by the band that Tim founded & fronted, ‘Sing To God’ by Cardiacs, and you’ll hear three tracks from that on the playlist. Other than that you can expect the usual eclectic musical mixture, including music from Tim’s various other musical projects: his solo work, Mr & Mrs Smith & Mr Drake, The Sea Nymphs, & Spratley’s Japs, plus cover versions of Tim’s work, music that influenced Tim, & bands who were in turn inspired by him. Below you’ll find the track list, plus weblinks from where you can find more information about each artist.

Thanks to all the musicians who contributed, particularly to the late, great Tim Smith, and to all listeners. Send us comments if you like what you hear (or even if you don’t… feedback is so important!). If you want to keep up to date with news about the show, EppyFest, or just chat with other listeners, don’t forget that there’s a Facebook group – just search for the Eppy Gibbon Podcast Show on Facebook and request to join, plus don’t forget that we’re now part of the Progzilla Radio Network. I should hopefully be back for the next show in a couple of weeks but things are a bit up in the air at the moment so just keep an eye out. Whatever we come up with, I can promise you it will be a great show.

I love Cardiacs, thanks for doing this special episode. Me and my bandmates listen to you in Portland, Oregon. Is there a way we can send you a free copy of our new prog rock album?

  2. Hi Jake, Many thanks for getting in touch and apologies for the slow reply but my Mum passed away recently and work has been tough, so I’ve not really found the time to keep up with all the stuff to do with the show. Great to hear you love Cardiacs (which is only fair because they’re awesome) and I’m glad that you and your bandmates are listening in to the show. Yes, you can certainly send me a copy of your new album. Is it available on Bandcamp? And are you on Facebook? I’m sure we can find a way to communicate and you can share your album with me. I look forward to hearing it.

Thanks for doing what you do.
